Not music to my ears

Over the years, the topic of allowing music to be played in the shop has come up again and again.

Good news, bad news

The consensus is that the economy has pretty much recovered from the Great Recession, and I am seeing many signs that this is true.

Where are they?

I keep hearing about how many people are still out of work. I need people to work. Seems like it should be a good fit.

What I say

I was taken to task in replies to my last post for discussing issues that were not confined to woodworking but that could be applied to many (or any) businesses.

Immigration reform

Since most of the people working in shops and on construction sites (from my perspective in California) are of Spanish speaking decent, the immigration issue is one that affects employers deeply.

How long does learning take?

We all know that skills must be acquired. No one is born with them. It’s a learning process.

Gridlock revisited (What? Already?)

My take on the recent election is that people have become exhausted with the apparent inability of government to actually accomplish anything.

Take me to your leader

The recent election has got me thinking about the need for strong leadership, It’s obvious that the country is desperate for strong leaders who can pull the warring factions together.

Better mousetrap?

There is an old saying that if you build a better mousetrap, the world will beat a path to your door. In reality, nothing could be farther from the truth.

Well, it’s done. My father-in-law’s funeral turned out to be the best crappy day of my life.
